Get the facts about life on set!

Do you think you want to work in BC's dramatic motion picture industry?

The BC Film Industry Orientation Course is a two-day introduction to working in dramatic film and television production (primarily on-set). It is mandatory for application to most film labour organizations in BC.

The curriculum for the course was developed through an industry-wide consultation process and is standardized for all delivery locations.

The course:

  • provides information about the realities of working in the film industry
  • provides an overview of the jobs that make up the film crew
  • serves as a preliminary screening mechanism for entry into the industry
  • improves the ability of new entrants to function safely and effectively on set
  • teaches a standardized set of expectations, vocabulary and knowledge about working on set in BC.

This course does not provide individual career counseling or detailed instruction and tips on "breaking in" or getting a job in the film industry.

THE BCIFP manages the delivery of the Film Industry Orientation Course at registered public and private institutions throughout BC. We endorse instructors, certify students who successfully complete the course, maintain a provincial registration record, supervise delivery and update curriculum.

Contact the specific educational institutions for more information and registration.
