About Us

Rapid growth can mean great things for the economy and for employment.

But it also has an impact on training needs and other human resource issues.

When the BC film industry experienced rapid employment growth throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, representatives from the industry knew something had to be done. Meeting over a period of 18 months in 1997 and 1998, they developed a strategy to address the impact of industry growth on human resource development.

The BCIFP was established in November 1998 with seed funding from BC's film unions and guilds and matching financial assistance from the provincial government.

As a central information source for human resource issues and training programs in the film industry, the BCIFP is the point of contact for public, government, education and industry. During our four-year history, we have helped deliver invaluable programs and services to help BC lead the way in training in the film and TV industry.

Moreover, we are a model for a sectoral advisory committee for the film industry and a leading edge cultural training model, representing a pilot case that can be used across Canada and in other countries to help develop human resources for film and TV.

The film industry has a collaborative way of working that demands flexibility, cooperation and partnerships. We provide a strong voice for industry training.
